  • Instructions

    Check Your Leather’s Absorbency
Start by testing if your leather is absorbent or non-absorbent. Simply place a few drops of water on the surface. If the water soaks in and darkens the leather, it’s absorbent. If it beads up, the leather is non-absorbent and will need to be prepped with the deglazer.

    For Non-Absorbent Leather
Dab a cotton ball with Clyde’s Leather Deglazer and gently rub it in circular motions on the area you want to recolor. Wear gloves and avoid skin contact.
Once the leather feels clean and dull, repeat the absorbency test. If water is absorbed, your leather is ready for recoloring.

    For Absorbent Leather
You’re all set! No prep is needed since the leather’s original finish has already worn off or wasn’t applied.

    Spot or Full Surface Prep
For small touch-ups, apply the deglazer only to the damaged areas. For a full recoloring project, treat the entire leather surface until it becomes absorbent.

  • How Do I Use It?

Step 2 in our 4-step process is using our leather prep and deglazing solution. You are only required to use this solution if your leather is non-absorbent. If your leather is absorbent, you're in the clear to skip to leather recoloring balm application.

    View complete instructions here.

  • Is My Leather Absorbent?

Your leather must be absorbent before applying our leather recoloring balm. Here's how to check:

Place a few droplets of water on the surface of the leather, preferably somewhere that has no damage. If the water is absorbed into the leather, and the color of the leather surface darkens, this means your leather is absorbent. This means the manufacturer's original leather finish has worn off or was never applied.

If the water sits on top of the surface of the leather, this means your leather is non-absorbent. There’s nothing to worry; this is normal. This means that the manufacturer's leather finish is still coating your leather. You just need to strip the manufacturer's finish using our deglazer.

  • The 4-step Process

Clyde's 4-Step Leather Recoloring Process - a tried-and-tested solution for leather repair and restoration. Developed through years of research, customer reviews, and expert input, this easy-to-follow process ensures impressive results. Please follow the steps as directed to avoid undesirable outcomes.

STEP 1 CLEAN YOUR LEATHER: Begin by cleaning the leather surface with Clyde's Leather Cleaning Foam and a cloth. This step effectively removes embedded dirt and dust from the leather pores.

STEP 2 ABSORBENCY TEST: If the leather isn't absorbent, use Clyde's Leather Preparer and Deglazer to remove the original finish. This product strips the leather of non-absorbent oils, preparing it for the recoloring balm.

STEP 3 APPLY RECOLORING BALM: Apply Clyde's Leather Recoloring Balm sparingly, massaging it into the leather using the included sponge. Allow 24-36 hours for the balm to cure. Once fully cured, additional balm cannot be applied.

STEP 4 CONDITION LEATHER: Following the balm application, apply Clyde's Natural Leather Conditioner to seal the balm, prevent color transfer, and extend the life of your leather. For detailed instructions, click here.

Product Info
  • Decription

We scoured best-sellers and selected items to review. After testing our picks ourselves, we couldn't find anything that values absorbency testing. There are two types of leather: absorbent and non-absorbent. Oftentimes, leather isn't absorbent, which means the manufacturer's finish is still applied. This prevents the leather to absorb and use other leather care products, whether it's a recoloring balm or conditioner. Failure to deglaze non-absorbent leather leads to streaking and peeling. At Clyde's, we offer a leather deglazing solution that will prepare your leather for balm application. Our deglazing solution strips the finish of the leather, allowing our balm to be applied successfully.

Until Clyde's Leather Recoloring Balm, recoloring your leather meant using expensive dyes which contain toxic and harmful ingredients and often leave leather cracked and dry. We changed that. Our high-tech recoloring balm recolors leather while improving its lifespan tenfold; restoring leather's natural color, filling in old scratches, and usable on any leather surface, including your car seats, sofas, boots, jackets, saddles, bags and more...
