Aton of Love Tests Clyde’s Leather Recoloring Balm and Some of Our Top-Selling Products

The importance of leather care comes down to a simple fact: leather actually feels and looks better when it is nurtured. With proper care and treatment, all leather can last for years.

Recently, Raven from Aton of Love, got her hands on some of our best-selling Clyde's Leather Care products. We make some of the finest and top-ranked DIY products for all things leather and wood, but we also love to know what people think about them.

She filmed her experience in a series of TikTok videos to find out if the Leather Recoloring Balm, Leather Prep and Deglaze and Leather Conditioning Cream are worth the hype. Here's how it went for her!

PART 1: THE LEATHER RECOLORING BALM AND LEATHER PREP & DEGLAZE

Aton of Love scored a few vintage pub chairs from the Facebook marketplace and realized that the original color had to go. They were originally in pink, and they reached out to us because she wanted to turn them into dark brown.

Before she got to try some of Clyde’s Leather products, she had to do a quick and easy water test first. This is important in getting ideal results.

For the water test, she put a few droplets of water on the surface of the leather. The water just sat on top of the surface, which means that her pub chairs’ leather is non-absorbent!

If you have the same results after doing a water test, don’t worry. It’s normal. You can either strip the manufacturer's leather finish or leave it as it is…

But here’s the thing: when you have non-absorbent leather, you can’t just apply balm and call it a day.

In her case, she chose to do the former. So, she removed the finish by using the Leather Prep and Deglaze.

For the prep and deglazing process:

  • Deconstruct all the chairs to take all the leather cushions.
  • Then, dab cotton balls in the preparing solution and rub in circular motions until the leather becomes absorbent. Keep repeating this step until the leather is fully absorbent.

It took a solid day for her to get it done, but she was happy when she saw all the body oil and dirt that’s been lingering in her old pub chairs.

Now, she’s ready to revamp the chairs with the Leather Recoloring Balm.

For recoloring the leather:

  • Clean the surface of your leather then dry it with a cloth.
  • Apply a small amount of the leather recoloring balm to the application sponge which is included in the packet.
  • Apply the balm to the leather surface. Rub in circular motions.
  • Wait for it to dry while you repeat the previous step on another section of the leather.
  • After coating the leather, it’s important to cure it for 24-36 hours. If you see streaks or circles, buff the leather surface with a moist towel, which will remove lines and streaks. Wait for 20 more hours and you have a new set of pub chairs!

She said this process can be intimidating because the leather looks awful with the first few coats but on her 4th and final coat, the leather is completely transformed from pale pink to dark brown!

PART 2: THE LEATHER CONDITIONING CREAM

Now that the recoloring process is done, she used the Conditioning Cream.

For this process, she applied the cream in small swirls using an old t-shirt. And yes, you can even put the cream on any leather in your house. It guarantees long-lasting protection for 10+ years.

FINAL VERDICT:

Overall, we’re happy to see her chairs turned out even better! From old, pale pink leather, the dark brown chairs flow better with her room. To make them complement other room elements, she also swapped out the rug and put on the Navy curtains.

Clyde’s Leather products helped her transform the pub chairs using the Leather Recoloring Balm, Leather Prep and Deglaze, and Leather Conditioning Cream

It seems like a lot of work, but once you’ve used the products and followed the step-by-step instructions, you can also revamp any leather and gave new life to it.

For those who are wondering, she also did a “White Pants Test” after recoloring and moisturizing the leather. She’s 100% sure that you won’t get any streaks in your pants when you recolor your leather cushions. See it for yourself!
