1.  What is Clydes 4-Step Process?

Our 4-Step Leather Recoloring Process is our easy and highly effective method for leather recoloring and repair; it consists of cleaning, absorbency testing, recoloring, and conditioning.

2. How do I test for leather absorbency?

Place a few droplets of water on the surface of the leather, preferably somewhere that has no damage. If the water is absorbed into the leather, and the color of the leather surface darkens, this means your leather is absorbent.

2. Can I mix two or more colors?

Yes, colors can be mixed to achieve any desired color. Please submit a contact form here, and we will help you pick the right colors.

3. Can I change the color of my leather?
Yes, any balm can recolor any leather. For example, if you have a black leather bag, you can recolor it to light brown or white!

4. Does it work on vinyl, vegan, or faux leather?

Our leather balm works on all leather surfaces, except nubuck and suede leather.

MORE FAQS HERE

Great question, your needs will vary depending on what you want to recolor! Don't hesitate to contact us for assistance!

When it comes to recoloring, better to have more than less. Once the balm cures, you shouldn't apply more. Doing so can lead to cracking and peeling.

If you have extra when you finish the job, we will pay for your return.

STEP 1: CLEAN YOUR LEATHER

Clean leather surface using Clyde's Leather Cleaning Foam and a rag. This removes dirt and dust that has been burried in the leather pores.

STEP 2: ABSORBENCY TEST

If leather isn't absorbent, remove original finish using our Clyde's Leather Preparer and Deglazer. This will strip the leather of oils that make it non-absorbent.

STEP 3: APPLY RECOLORING BALM

Apply Clyde’s Leather Recoloring Balm in a conservative manner, messaging the balm into the leather using the sponge included. Allow 24-36 hours for balm to cure.

STEP 4: CONDITION LEATHER

Apply Clyde's Natural Leather Conditioner following balm application. This will seal the balm and prevent color transfer, as well as extend the life of your leather.

WHY CLYDE'S?

Unlike most leather recoloring dyes and balms, which contain toxic and harmful ingredients and often leave leather cracked and dry, Clyde's™ Leather Recoloring balm was engineered with our ClydeColor™ technology, which recolors leather while simultaneously improving its lifespan tenfold. Our balm restores leather's natural color, fill in old scratches, and can be used on any leather surface, including your car seats, sofas, boots, jackets, saddles, bags and more...

CLYDE'S 4-STEP PROCESS

Leather repair is highly nuanced, and requires careful direction. That is why we created Clyde's 4-Step Leather Recoloring Process: our simple and highly effective method for leather recoloring and repair. Backed by years of trial and error and thousands of customer reviews. Following this process will ensure the best results possible, failure to do so will lead to undesirable results like peeling and streaking.

WATCH HOW IT WORKS

Important! Have you prepped your leather?

Before you apply our balm, there are a few initial steps you must take. First, you will need to clean your leather. Second, you must determine what kind of leather you are working with. Some leathers are non-absorbent, meaning our balm will not absorb. You will need to use our leather deglazing solution to prep this kind of leather before balm application, and our conditioning cream after application to refinish the surface.

Our 4-Step Leather Recoloring Process is our easy and highly effective method for leather recoloring and repair. Our process is backed by years of trial and error, thousands of customer reviews, and feedback from dozens of professional leather workers.

The process consists of cleaning, absorbency testing, recoloring, and conditioning your leather.

Colors can be mixed to achieve any desired color. Please submit a contact form here, and we will help you pick the right colors.

Any color balm can recolor any color leather. I.e. a black leather surface can be recolored to light brown or white.

Please note: if going from a darker color to a lighter color, more coats of the balm will need to be applied.

Upon contact, our balm will begin to chemically bond with the surface of your leather. However, you must wait 24 hours after application to begin using your leather again. Once cured, you will need to seal the balm with our leather conditioning cream.

Our leather balm works on vinyl and vegan leather.

Your leather must be absorbent before applying our leather recoloring balm. Here's how to check:

Place a few droplets of water on the surface of the leather, preferably somewhere that has no damage. If the water is absorbed into the leather, and the color of the leather surface darkens, this means your leather is absorbent. This means the manufacturer's original leather finish has worn off or was never applied.

If the water sits on top of the surface of the leather, this means your leather is non-absorbent. There’s nothing to worry; this is normal. This means that the manufacturer's leather finish is still coating your leather. You just need to strip the manufacturer's finish using Clyde's Leather Prep and Deglaze.
