  • Is My Leather Absorbent?

    Your leather must be absorbent before applying our leather recoloring balm. Here's how to check:

    Place a few droplets of water on the surface of the leather, preferably somewhere that has no damage. If the water is absorbed into the leather, and the color of the leather surface darkens, this means your leather is absorbent. This means the manufacturer's original leather finish has worn off or was never applied.

    If the water sits on top of the surface of the leather, this means your leather is non-absorbent. There’s nothing to worry; this is normal. This means that the manufacturer's leather finish is still coating your leather. You just need to strip the manufacturer's finish using Clyde's Leather Prep and Deglaze.

  • How Much Do I Need?

    Once the balm has completely cured it is advised that you don't apply more. Thus, we recommend having the recommended amount at time of application. That being said, a little goes a very long way.

    If you have extra after your restoration job, we'll pay you to send it back for a refund or we'll discount the original order. Don't hesitate to contact us for assistance!

    Clyde's 4-Step Leather Recoloring Process - a tried-and-tested solution for leather repair and restoration. Developed through years of research, customer reviews, and expert input, this easy-to-follow process ensures impressive results. Please follow the steps as directed to avoid undesirable outcomes.

    STEP 1 CLEAN YOUR LEATHER: Begin by cleaning the leather surface with Clyde's Leather Cleaning Foam and a cloth. This step effectively removes embedded dirt and dust from the leather pores.

    STEP 2 ABSORBENCY TEST: If the leather isn't absorbent, use Clyde's Leather Preparer and Deglazer to remove the original finish. This product strips the leather of non-absorbent oils, preparing it for the recoloring balm.

    STEP 3 APPLY RECOLORING BALM: Apply Clyde's Leather Recoloring Balm sparingly, massaging it into the leather using the included sponge. Allow 24-36 hours for the balm to cure. Once fully cured, additional balm cannot be applied.

    STEP 4 CONDITION LEATHER: Following the balm application, apply Clyde's Natural Leather Conditioner to seal the balm, prevent color transfer, and extend the life of your leather. For detailed instructions, click here.

    Would balm stain my clothing or rub off? No, the balm doesn't color transfer when applied correctly and given the correct amount of time to cure. It's designed to chemically bond with the leather surface.

    How long does it take to cure? Upon contact, our balm will begin to chemically bond with the surface of your leather. However, you must wait 24 hours after application to begin using your leather again. Once cured, you will need to seal the balm with our leather conditioning cream.

    Can colors be mixed? Colors can be mixed to achieve any desired color. Please submit a contact form here, and we will help you pick the right colors.

    Can I change the color of my leather? Any color balm can recolor any color leather. I.e. a black leather surface can be recolored to light brown or white. If going from a darker color to a lighter color, more coats of the balm will need to be applied.

    What is Clyde's 4-Step Process? Our easy and highly effective method for leather recoloring and repair, backed by years of trial and error, thousands of customer reviews, and feedback from dozens of professional leather workers. It's been an great product, so far I have colored a pair of tall boots, some leather straps, a belt and even my worn hikers (pictured).     Our 20 year old Ethan Allen sectional is still in great shape, but the original dark grey color faded to a cracked, sickly light Grey from sun damaged in our great room. The photo shows partial completed project with the contrast from areas treated with the Dark Grey balm to sun faded sections. I chipped away at the project over 2 weeks and used all 3 of the products: Cleaner, balm and conditioner. The results are nothing short of spectacular and our sectional is fully restored to original beauty. Easy products to use!     This was so easy to do. I started with just one square because I was afraid it would be a mess. I was wrong!!!! I wiped this product on and that was it. It dried very fast. It did not wipe off. I even took a white towel and tried to buff it. Because of it, being black, I just knew it may rub off on the towel…. But it did not! It was fast and easy to apply. As I walk by it and admire how well it turned out… I thought … I have to leave a review! (Which is something I never do)

Since I NEVER give up, I was searching again this week and found Clyde’s Leather Care Kit and decided to try it out. What could it hurt, right?!? It came in today and I tried it right away. I am VERY SATISFIED with the results! If you have leather, especially king ranch leather, and your seats look like mine did, give it a try! I couldn’t be happier with the end result!     Our 17 year old leather chair was not looking good. The structure of the chair was still comfortable, but it was an eyesore in our living room. These products saved the day! 3 hours of labor followed by curing resulted in what looks like a new chair! We are so pleased with the results! We used only 1 kit, however, we felt we needed more cleaning foam and deglazer (only 2 oz.?). We barely had enough to finish the job for those steps. Overall, we will sing the praises of these products! Just feel that for the price of the kit, we should not have been panicked that we couldn't finish 1 chair and ottoman.     I have a really expensive cream colored purse that turned yellow and had stains where it looked hideous. It was not usable and I almost threw it out. I figured might as well try to recolor it- I have nothing to lose. I tried to other cheaper brands and they didn’t cover anything. I saw the reviews on this but none for cream or white. This was my last attempt. It worked surprisingly well. I chose light beige which took the yellow tint out of the leather and covered the browning at the handles. The bag is back to being a solid cream color that is usable. One note is to be careful around metal hinges on bag as the color will cover it (you can scrap it off metal with fingernail). Overall very happy with the product and will use it again on any other leather damage I incur. Thank you

    I had to leave a review for this company. I purchased a 10 year old leather chair off of Facebook marketplace. It was in good condition, but definitely worn and faded. I figured I’d try to revive the color and bring some life back to it. The number one thing I was worried about when looking for a leather coloring balm was that it would leave cracking and flaking. But I found this company and the reviews were so positive that I decided to try them out. I was completely blown away by the results! Just the recoloring balm alone made my chair look new again AND made it softer. It was a perfect color match, easy to use, and brought this ten year old chair back to life. The remoisturizing cream was the cherry on top to ensure added softness and that I was caring for my leather. 100% recommend this company!     I bought these to use with my leather crafts-tooling, dying, etc. I love cream based dyes, as they are harder to spill and highlight my stamped images better than liquid dyes. The Clyde Leather dyes are available in a nice assortment of colors. They are easy to apply and to clean up after. (I just wash the applicator sponge with soap & water.) There is an odor, but it is minimal and I do not find it bothersome. My photo shows a test piece with some tooling and 3 coats of pink.

    This stuff is amazing! So far I’ve ordered 3 different colors for different chairs, and it works wonders. This vintage Ekornes chair was cracking and discolored EVERYWHERE when I picked it up. I used the dark brown refinisher all over and it looked almost brand new! Even my husband was amazed. I also love that a little bit goes such a long way. I did the entire chair and ottoman with maybe 1/4 of the small container. Would definitely recommend!

    This motorcycle seat terribly dry and neglected for years. When I purchased the motorcycle I scrubbed the mold and mildew from the seat and cleaned it as good as I thought possible. I purchased the black dye from Clyde’s and what a change it made. I originally thought I was going to have to purchase a new seat but no, Clyde’s dye penetrated and softened the old once looking leather to like new condition. Very much recommend Clyde’s products
